We are advertising an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and talented graduate to join our Vineyard Cadet Program at our Hawke’s Bay Vineyards.

This role will be based across both our Martinborough and Hawke’s Bay vineyards. Hawke’s Bays 85-hectare vineyard on the Gimblett Gravels, which is comprised of intensively managed, high density, super-premium blocks with cool climate varieties of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Chardonnay. Martinborough regions Te Muna Road and consists of two distinct terraces the higher comprising very old, stony clay-infused soils perfect for Pinot Noir. The lower terrace provides an excellent environment for Sauvignon Blanc. 

The aim of the cadet program is to select a recent graduate and give them broad industry experience to create an excellent foundation for their viticultural career. The 2-year program will include in-depth experience in practical viticultural operations, technical vineyard data collection, contract labour management, organic management, and exposure the decision-making processes in viticultural management.

What this position entails

The Vineyard Cadet Programme offers comprehensive training in vineyard management, encompassing tasks such as vine care, machinery operations, frost protection, irrigation, technical operations, soil management, harvest techniques, labour management, and general vineyard management. Participants gain expertise in pruning, disease management, canopy maintenance, machinery maintenance, soil monitoring, and grape maturity assessment, among other vital skills. This well-rounded program equips cadets with the knowledge and practical experience necessary for successful vineyard operations and management.

Health and Safety Responsibilities

Taking reasonable care for his or her own health and safety and ensuring that any action or inaction does not adversely affect the health and safety of others. You will become familiar with and abiding by all applicable company policies and standard operating procedures and relevant statutory obligations. In conjunction with other Craggy Range employees, you will ensure all company buildings, tools, machinery and vehicles are kept to correct standards and secure at all times. You will also assist in the preparation and review of vineyard standard operating procedures.

To be considered applicants must have the right to work legally in New Zealand and a Full Driver's License. Applicants must also hold the equivalent of NZQA Level 4 Viticulture and Wine Science or experience in a comparable establishment.
