Whitehaven Wine Company is a leading New Zealand family-owned wine company producing an award-winning collection of 100% Marlborough wines with an uncompromising focus on quality.
Located in the heart of Marlborough’s golden mile of winemaking, our broad portfolio of wines is sustainably-produced from accredited sustainable vineyards. While we are a medium-to-large size winery we operate as a small, family-owned facility combining traditional winemaking approaches with modern technology. Our winemaking philosophy is centred around respect and attention to detail for every parcel of fruit that arrives. We are committed to improving all aspects of our social and environmental integrity under the company values of Respect, Innovation and Collaboration.
Due to recent growth within our winery, we are seeking a 2nd Winery Maintenance Technician to join our Winery Operations team.
The position is a full time, permanent role working 40 hours per week. Over harvest (approx. 3 weeks) shifts are 12 hours a day, 6 days a week, including nights and weekends.
This will be a diverse and rewarding role for the right person - you will play a key part in maintaining a functional and compliant winery. One day could see you pulling a wine pump apart, the next could have you coordinating contractors or responding to site alarms. Our busy vintage season will see you focussed on managing the wastewater plant and disposal fields across a shift. It’s guaranteed no two days will be same!
Approachable and flexible with a positive can-do attitude and an eye for detail, you will have no trouble working autonomously or in a team environment.
Key Tasks:
- Ensure winery plant and ancillaries are functioning effectively and compliantly: Septic, Potable water, Cooling tower, Wastewater plant and disposal system
- Complete light maintenance and repairs throughout the winery and plant
- Liaise with contractors around machinery and plant maintenance
- Share responsibilities responding to site alarms
Skills & Experience:
- Knowledge of mechanical and engineering practices
- Basic knowledge of winery or food manufacturing processes will be advantageous
- An understanding of wastewater systems or a keen willingness to learn
- Forklift and tractor experience is desirable but not essential
Whitehaven will provide:
- A fantastic working and learning environment!
- Annual Health and Wellbeing allowance
- Annual wine allowance
- Birthday leave
As well as the necessary experience, knowledge and skills for the role, you will have/be:
- A good level of fitness
- Supportive of teamwork in a fast-paced work environment
- An awesome sense of humour!
- Highly-organised with strong attention to detail
- The ability to communicate effectively in English
- Ability to work flexible and long hours, and weekends during vintage
- A respect for New Zealand workplace safety requirements
- The ability to lawfully work in New Zealand or obtain the right to lawfully work in New Zealand
