Cellar Door Manager and Hosts

Huia Vineyards focuses deeply on the environment and our place in it. A boutique organic winery based in Rapaura, Marlborough, Huia was established in 1996 and has a strong legacy of quality, hand-crafted wine that is enjoyed around the world. 

Huia specialises in making traditional method sparkling wine. We focus on showcasing the very best Marlborough can deliver, through our organic wines including Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Our Cellar Door is positioned amongst the vines of our home block in Rapaura. Being located in the ‘Golden Mile’ that boasts some of the region’s best producers, Huia is a ‘must-do’ for tourists. Popular for delivering world-class wine amongst a relaxed, inviting setting, our Cellar Door enjoys busy visitor turnover during summer. 

This is an opportunity for the right person to make the Huia Cellar Door their own. The Cellar Door has previously opened over summer. We are seeking a Cellar Door Manager to drive success to make it become a year-round offering. There will be supporting sales and marketing work during late autumn, winter and spring when less visitors come to Marlborough.

You will need to be confident in your ability to welcome guests, making them feel at home and share the ethos of balance that we have at Huia. Storytelling is important. While good wine knowledge is a bonus, it is something we can share with you. 

As the Cellar Door Manager, you will be working with the team at Huia and an external Sales & Marketing Consultant to grow Huia sales.  

We are looking for someone who ideally has some of the following:

• Is highly motivated and a self-starter but is a great team-player looking to nurture good company culture.
• Has a hunger to see Huia continue to be a stand-out winery to visit and can share our wines confidently.
• Can demonstrate strong interpersonal & communication skills and relate to a wide range of people.

Can perform a variety of functions related to wine sales:

• Online sales & wine club
• Stock logistics and shipping
• Liaise with trade customers
• Has experience in retail, sales and/or hospitality (required for Manager role. An advantage for Hosts)
• Takes pride in delivering fantastic customer service and maintaining a well-presented venue
• A Duty Managers certificate would be beneficial

The Cellar Door Manager is a full-time role (30+ hrs per week) with a great wage (entry rates $25-$28/experienced $29-$30/hour). We are also seeking Cellar Door Hosts from November for the summer season. Host hours may vary to meet visitor demand. If you are available 2+ days a week we’d be interested in hearing from you.
