Assistant Vineyard Manager/Viticulturist

Passage Rock Wines is looking for an experienced person to join our team on Waiheke. We are a 25 year old vineyard that has produced many award-winning wines. We have 10 hectares on two sights with magnificent coastal views where we grow Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Tempranillo, Montepulciano, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier and Pinot Gris.

Responsibilities:

• Be actively involved in all vineyard work and assist with operations planning, be able to work independently to achieve goals set during planning and ensuring commitment and compliance to H&S legislation
• Supervising, training and working with seasonal staff on all vineyard operations including pruning, shoot thinning, plucking, wire lifting, netting etc.
• Vineyard maintenance – clips, wires, posts etc.
• To be familiar with common vineyard pests and diseases, and be able to identify and monitor
• Record keeping, spray diary, pest and disease monitoring, Health and safety etc.
• Tractor operation e.g. spraying, mowing, trimming etc.

Attributes: 

• Certificate or Diploma level viticulture (desirable, but not essential)
• Proven experience in the day-to-day vineyard operations, guidance, supervision and support to Vineyard Operators
• Good practical skills and good at problem solving
• Ability to cultivate positive working relationships with both peers and management
• High level of personal accountability 
• A positive attitude
• Proven vineyard experience with a strong track record and references
• Strong working knowledge of health and safety.
