About the Company

Zeffer is New Zealand’s largest dedicated cider producer and are based in Hawke’s Bay. From humble beginnings selling cider at the local Farmer’s Market in 2008, we have since grown significantly both nationally and internationally, driven by a domestic distribution partnership with Lion NZ, as well as a major retail launch in Australia. We are proud of our authentically-made, real fruit cider, as well as our other recent new beverages, and genuinely care about our customers and our employees.

About the Role

We are looking for a Head of Beverage & Operations to join the team in Hawke’s Bay at a time of rapid growth. You will be responsible for all aspects of production, from fermentation and blending of liquids to packaging (into cans, bottles and kegs) ready for dispatch. You will be responsible for overseeing all of Zeffer’s site operations and will be looking after the beverage manufacturing and packaging teams.

This role will form part of the Senior Leadership Team and will be reporting directly to the CEO.

The hours for this role will generally be 8am – 5pm.

Duties will include:

  • Leading the production team to achieve production targets and goals
  • Ensuring all beverages are fermented, blended, and packaged ready for distribution to our customers in full on time and in spec (DIFOTIS)
  • Management of the beverage manufacturing, packaging and quality control teams
  • Management of liquid development to align with Zeffer’s new product strategy
  • Working closely with the senior leadership team on strategies to scale our production site to 3x current annual volumes over the next few years
  • Bi-monthly reporting to the Zeffer Board of Directors
  • Being a lead ambassador for the Zeffer brand
  • Liaising and working closely with the CEO, CFO and all other departments
  • Ensuring a wide range of lean manufacturing approaches are implemented
  • Training staff (new staff members and ongoing training for existing team members)

Key Skills & Requirements:

  • Senior leadership experience of the technology, processes and compliance associated with beverage production
  • Experience with liquid fermentation is essential
  • Experience with packaging lines and pasteurisation is preferred  
  • Motivated by process improvements to drive continuous efficiency gains in production
  • Health & Safety focused and possess an excellent understanding of Health & Safety procedures
  • Effective communication skills and an ability to be a decision-marker
  • A strong background in people management and building high-performing teams is essential
  • A creative mindset with strong organisational skills
  • A strong command of lean manufacturing principles
