The Hawke's Bay Wine Company is a custom crush facility based in urban Napier, making commercial, premium and ultra-premium wine for a range of clients since 2013, from the very largest wineries in New Zealand, through to small boutique producers. This mix ensures a constant variety of work and gives exposure to many different wines, wine styles and winemaking philosophies.

But it’s not all about the plant and machinery. Over the last couple of years, we’ve brought together a group of people who have the right stuff to help us make the wines we want to make. You could liken a winery to a church – it’s not actually about the building, more the people in it.

The Role

We are looking for an ace Winemaker to help run our company's winemaking operations, so we can manage the contract wines being made, effectively and efficiently with the highest quality outcome that can be achieved, using best winemaking practice to the specification provided.

You'll oversee the production of wines from grape receival, through to blending, planning, tasting of wine trials and preparation for bottling.

You’ll need to maintain good working relationships while being responsive and communicative with your teammates and clients along with other departments at HBWC to ensure activities are coordinated effectively and efficiently… and where required, actively promote HBWC through various trade and public functions.

YOU… are awesome!

You'll also have a Bachelor of Science - Wine or relevant winemaking qualification and experience.

You will be:

  • A reliable team player with a can-do attitude.
  • Focused with a strong attention to detail with accuracy and have excellent time management skills, with the ability to meet objectives and achieve deadlines.
  • Skilled in MS Office.
  • Health & Safety minded, while leading by example and follow all safety procedures and protocols.
  • Able to view projects long-term and think strategically.
  • Excellent at relationship building.

Benefits and Culture

The right people, precision, intuition, and equipment are what a winery needs to create great wine. Join our passionate winemaking in the beautiful Hawkes Bay region.

We offer a fun, safe and inclusive team environment to work and learn alongside our winemakers and lab staff, vineyard, and cellar door crew. We enjoy a good laugh and getting together for a glass of wine, or (more often than not) a cold beer. There are many benefits including a wine allowance, wine tastings and access to our Employee Assistance Program.

If this sounds like you, (come on, you know it does!) please apply via winejobsonline with CV and Cover letter. We look forward to hearing from you!

Only candidates with the right to work in New Zealand will be considered for this role.

Only people eligible to work in this country should apply for this position. Please provide evidence of your work visa or citizenship.
