Nanny Goat Vineyard is a successful Central Otago wine producer based in the picturesque Queensberry Sub Region, just a short 15-minute drive from Wanaka or 20 minutes from Cromwell. We are known for producing world-class Pinot Noir.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Vineyard Operator who is looking to develop their career with us as we continue to expand our production in Central Otago.

Working with our Vineyard Supervisor and reporting to Head of Winemaking, Alan Peters-Oswald, the focus of this role is to execute the daily operations of the Nanny Goat Vineyard. Your role will include actioning and delivering spray programs, vine trimming, irrigation management, net application, and frost control in line with the annual vineyard plan.

Nanny Goat Vineyard in Queensberry is proud to be accredited both Bio Gro Organic and Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand (SWNZ).

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

Viticulture and Vineyard Operations

  • Vineyard canopy spraying under the guidelines of Growsafe
  • Vine trimming and general tractor work
  • Winter pruning, vine training and wire lifting
  • Ensuring operations are consistent with Bio Gro and SWNZ principles
  • Maintaining Bio Gro and SWNZ records for vineyard operations
  • Irrigation maintenance
  • Implementing frost control measures
  • Applying and removing bird netting
  • Maintaining equipment and/or arranging servicing, as required
  • Maintaining buildings and landscape, as required
  • Pest and disease monitoring

Grape Supply and Harvest

  • Working with the Vineyard Supervisor and Head of Winemaking to co-ordinate harvesting each year
  • Completing crop estimates each growing season

You will be able to demonstrate the following attributes:

  • An eagerness to learn or specialise in new skills
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with a high attention to detail
  • A willingness to work extended hours, as the season demands
  • A keen interest in the operation and maintenance of precision machinery, such as tractors and sprayers
  • A Growsafe certification and tertiary qualification in viticulture or similar agriculture production, is desirable
  • Experience in an agriculture or viticultural operations role is desirable, however thorough training will be provided
  • A valid driver’s licence
  • A current first aid certificate is desirable
