As we gear up for V23, we’re on the hunt for lab staff to build our Vintage team, to provide rapid, accurate real-time analytical support to the wider production team, so we can get our fantastic wines out the door to NZ and international shelves. While FMCG lab experience is a plus, we also have entry-level roles available and provide comprehensive training to the entire vintage lab team.
We might be bragging, but our winery lab is industry-leading, with state-of-the-art technology and a proud team who boast proficiency scores in the top percentile in the country. Our lab has it all, and a dedicated, accurate team is at the core of it. Ideally you’ll have some lab experience in a previous workplace, a university lab or a winery – all we need is someone who is as committed and high-performing as the rest of the team. We work under high pressure and tight deadlines during vintage, so you’ll need to thrive in that environment, work well in a team and be physically fit. In this role you will be responsible for grape maturity analysis, sampling and testing ferments, and other analyses consistent with industry best practice. We’ll train you to be the best.
If you’re as comfortable in your wellies as you are in a lab coat, this is the role for you! Grapes are monitored periodically until harvest to inform how the blocks are tracking and to predict the potential harvest date. The berry analyst is responsible for the preparation and analysis of berry samples.
Typically, the lab team needs support from:
- Gisborne: Mid- to late January to mid-April
- Hawkes Bay: Mid- to late January to mid-April
- Marlborough: Mid-February to end of April
Because of the nature of our business, our vintage dates might change slightly, but we will always keep you up-to-date with the latest information as we get it.
You’ll do a bit of everything during your time with us…and you’re sure to learn and laugh a lot along the way. You can expect excellent variety (in both the work and the types of wine), pressing grapes, cleaning tanks, or handling barrels and the support of a passionate, talented and friendly team, every step of the way.

- This is a fast-paced environment and involves a fair amount of manual labour and concentration.

- You’ll need to be available to work shifts of up to 12 hours at vintage peak... for the early starters, your reward will be the amazing views and sunrises from the top of the tanks.
- You need to be prepared to undertake a pre-employment medical examination and drug and alcohol test.
