The company
Forrest Estate Wines is a small, family-owned and operated winery in the heart of the Marlborough wine growing region specialising in premium lighter wine production and alternative varieties. The winery works with a large portfolio of grape varieties from their Marlborough vineyards and process smaller volumes of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris from their Waitaki Valley vineyards.

The company is focused on progressing its strong brand reputation and is now looking for a Technical Winemaker to fulfil this requirement.
The Job
Reporting to the General Manager, the overall purpose of the Technical Winemaker is to manage viticulture and winemaking specifications that reflect the style, quality, innovation and compliance requirements of the company.
Key tasks include leading and managing a team, managing the winery workflow, managing relationships and workplans with the sales, logistics and vineyard teams, developing trials, managing research and development practices and ensuring vineyard and winemaking practices comply with relevant regulatory requirements – just to name a few.
The Ideal Candidate
You will be an experienced winemaking professional, with extensive knowledge and experience in current winemaking and viticulture technology. You will be familiar with large format winemaking and computer systems and have robust R&D and laboratory testing skills combined with the ability to analyse data and interpret results. You must have a relevant winemaking qualification.
Additionally, you will thrive under a flexible management style, be respectful of a small team environment and comfortable managing your own workload. You will be a great relationship manager, be comfortable with managing a team and have a keen eye for detail.
