Grab an exciting opportunity to lead the winemaking team at Sileni Estates, a winery with a well-established history, situated on the highly acclaimed “red metal” gravels of Hawke’s Bays Bridge Pa Triangle. Sileni Estates brings together a selection of premium vineyards from across both Hawke’s Bay and Marlborough and part of the Booster Wine Group.

Booster Wine Group is a collection of NZ wineries including Awatere River, Waimea Estates, Gravity Wines, Bannock Brae and Sileni Estates. Booster, through its Booster Tahi investment arm, is making significant investments in New Zealand’s agricultural businesses. It is here at Sileni Estates, where we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Winemaker who can add value to the wines that are created there, while also contributing to support the Sileni Estates cellar door and brands in market. 

Reporting to the National Head of Production you will take a lead on:

  • Developing and maintaining systems for all winemaking operations in fruit receival, cellar, lab, logistics and quality wine production.
  • Co-ordination of all winemaking from vine to bottle in liaison with regional winemakers and viticulturists.
  • Support all Booster Wine Group management plans and comply with all audit requirements and quality assurance programmes, FSSC2200.
  • High level of computer literacy and winemaking systems (Vintrace).
  • Manage all laboratory and qualitative analysis of wines at Sileni Estates.
  • Supervision and harvest preparation of a small, quality-focused team.
  • Contribute to tasting panels and sensory assessments at Sileni Estates and other Booster Wine Group wineries.
  • Provide in market brand support as required to communicate and enhance our brand and winemaking philosophies.
  • Support planning and delivery of Hawke’s Bay regional winery capex and opex budgets. Assist with other New Zealand Booster Wine Group winery budgets as required.
  • Collaborate with all regional winemakers and be prepared to travel on request to any Booster Wine Group winery or vineyard.
  • Meet winemaking standards for SWNZ and WSMP in accordance with Wine Act 2003.
  • Ensure effective development & implementation of standard operating procedures.
  • Lead and manage winery safety and quality assurance programmes.
  • Undertake research and development projects to enhance all regional winemaking programmes.
  • Report key results and production volumes to winemaking, finance, production and viticulture teams.
  • Provide training and mentoring to develop winemaking team and culture to achieve high quality outcomes.

Previous leadership and winemaking roles working with a diverse varietal portfolio will assist the successful candidate in this dynamic role. Successful applicant will hold an oenology (or similar) tertiary qualification and experience of more than 5 years in a senior winemaking role.
