About Akarua

Akarua is a 500t winery located in the beautiful Bannockburn subregion of Central Otago. Established in 1996, we now boast 130ha of vineyards in both Pisa and Bannockburn. Akarua produces around 17 different wines each year with a focus on Pinot noir but also small amounts of bubbles, Pinot gris, Chardonnay and Riesling.

About the roles

We are searching for both Cellar Hands and a joint Lab/Cellar Hand position. These are fixed term roles lasting approximately 8 weeks from the end of March until May, depending on the season. Our ideal candidates will have completed several vintages in a similar sized winery, have forklift experience and ideally, have a winemaking qualification. People who are new to the industry will also be considered and we are happy to train enthusiastic, hard working candidates without experience. Health and safety is a priority for us so we expect staff to adhere to all H&S requirements.

Cellar Hand

The roles during harvest will include varied work in the cellar from receival, destemming, pressing, daily punch downs, barrel downs and other tasks when required. We try to provide a diverse experience so, if you show aptitude, you won’t be stuck doing one job during harvest.

Lab/Cellar Hand

As above with around half of the time spent in the lab providing the winemakers and viticulturists with accurate pH, TA and Brix measurements and tasting samples.
