Viticulture Research Assistant

Bragato Research Institute (BRI) drives world-leading innovation for the New Zealand wine industry - from blue sky research through to the practical application of science in our vineyards, wineries, and supply chain. Launched in 2017 through programme funding from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, we are a wholly owned subsidiary of New Zealand Winegrowers, the national industry body for growers and wineries.

We are seeking a Viticulture Research Assistant to join our team. As a core member of our small extension and applied science team, you will be responsible for working with the extension manager and BRI’s science team to enhance our extension and applied research program. The role will be varied, with a combination of research and extension, proposal writing, and you will work with the team to design and run viticulture field trials. Viticulture or horticulture should be a passion and you will enjoy experimenting with new viticulture practices, interpreting results, and sharing the findings with others.

In addition to strong written and verbal communication skills, you will have a tertiary qualification in viticulture or horticulture and a minimum of 2-3 years technical viticulture or horticulture experience, including experience running and reporting on field trials.

As we are a national organisation, some travel will be a requirement of the role and ideally, the candidate will be based in Marlborough. There is the possibility the candidate could be based in another New Zealand wine region.

This position is a two year, fixed-term position. Only people eligible to reside and work in New Zealand permanently should apply.
