Saint Clair Estate Wines is proud to be a family-owned winery located in the heart of Marlborough.

Our quality wines are internationally recognised, and it is a real team effort to help produce and distribute these wines throughout the world.

We are currently seeking experienced and passionate vintage staff to join us for the 2021 Harvest. The following roles will be based at our winery in Marlborough, starting late February/early March through until the completion of harvest - late April/early May.

Candidates must be flexible to work varying shifts during harvest and at its peak period, 12-hour shifts, 6 days per week, will be required. Whilst on 12-hour shifts, daily meals will be provided.

Senior Cellar Hands/Supervisors                     

These positions are suited to people with a minimum of 4 vintages experience (or 2 vintages at Saint Clair) and preferably a qualification in winemaking. You will need to have strong communication and leadership skills, a solid understanding of all cellar operations and previous experience in a vintage supervisory role. Working closely with the Area Supervisors, your role is to support, lead, train and supervise a small team of people whilst working alongside them.

Experienced Cellar Hands        

Experienced Cellar Hands will have at least 2 vintages of winery experience (or 1 vintage at Saint Clair) and/or Level 7 tertiary qualifications in winemaking. We are looking for people with a good practical ability who are self-motivated, hard-working and enjoy working as part of a team.

Your role will be varied and may involve all aspects of our winery's processing and production including:

  • Cleaning and sanitation
  • Grape receival processing and pressing
  • Management of red and white fermentations
  • Filtration
  • Barrel management
  • Finished wine production

Experienced Lab Technicians

The role will involve conducting routine analysis on juice and wine samples, as well as data entry using Vintrace and Excel. Ideally you will have strong computer literacy skills, attention to detail and an ability to multi-task. Preference will be shown to those with prior laboratory experience and/or a qualification in wine science.

Entry Level Cellar Hands           

While some industry experience is preferred, we will consider applicants that demonstrate a keen interest and willingness to learn. Applicants wishing to gain some experience prior to vintage would benefit from completing the New Zealand certificate in Cellar Operations Level 3 with NMIT Marlborough, but it is not essential.

Our ideal candidates will have sound English language skills, both written and verbal. Previous confined space training and forklift experience is an advantage; however, full in-house training and a Health and Safety induction will be provided.

Applicants must have the legal entitlement to work in NZ or be eligible to apply for a relevant visa. They must also be able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
