Christmas and New Year Public Holidays 2014/2015
Fortunately for employers, calculating public holiday pay entitlements is relatively straightforward this year.
Monday to Friday workers
Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, Boxing Day and the day after New Year’s Day all fall on weekdays so they will be observed on the days they fall (Thursday 25/ Friday 26 December, Thursday 1/ Friday 2 January) and employees will be paid for those days if they would otherwise be working days for them.
Casual/on-call workers
Casual/on-call workers are entitled to receive payment for a public holiday if it would otherwise have been a working day, eg if an employee can show a pattern of working on Thursdays, they would more than likely be entitled to Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
